Business captions – why your company needs them

There’s a permissive and overarching perception that captions are for Deaf and people hard of hearing. We’re here to tell you that this is not the case. Business captions in particular are an excellent idea, and here’s why…

Captions are for everyone!

We’ve talked before about why subtitles and captions are becoming more popular when watching TV, Streaming, and social media videos, with a staggering 85% of people now using them.

This alone should show that it’s not just deaf and hard of hearing people who benefit from captions. Even with the pandemic over, working from home has remained, and video meetings are still the norm.

They’re also incredibly annoying. Every meeting will have people talking over each other, microphones cutting out, delays in the stream and background noise making it difficult to hear what’s going on, and business captions help with all of that.

Live business captions can help keep all staff members informed and involved with what’s going on, with transcripts available to read back at a later date, keeping everyone on the same page about what was agreed.

They’re great for training videos

In any kind of training video, captions have been shown to improve comprehension and test results.

People tend to remember things they’ve seen rather than what they’ve heard, so reading along with someone’s voice is a double whammy of understanding.

On top of that, business captions are an excellent way for employees who have English as a second language to keep up with what’s going on, especially if the speaker or tutor has an accent or mumbles.

It levels the playing field for all your employees, regardless of whether they have perfect hearing, need to translate as they go, or are simply sitting at the back of the room.

Business captions can help you grow

If you have any videos online, especially YouTube, then captions can help you with your SEO.

YouTube is owned by Google, and they want the best websites in their results page.

If you have a video online explaining what you do, then Google’s crawl bots can’t watch that video and decide to move you up the results page.

However, if your video has captions, then those same bots can read the transcript of what’s being said in the video and place you higher on Google’s front page.

Even if your short, 5-minute video is content heavy, then the captions might contain the equivalent information of a small website.

Google loves this, especially if the video is relating to a specific question. If your video answers a query someone has typed into Google, then Google will bring it up as the first result.
